Last week much of my time was spent in working out a riddle where we proposed a customer Forefront TMG as a solution for having an Internet gateway, This work used to be pretty much done by ISA 2006 as well, now Forefront TMG 2010 being its successor offer more and variety of features and options, however this post is not intended on comparing the two products. IE9

Internet explorer 9 is expected to be released sometime in September (beta version). Better performance and improved Acid3 test scores are expected.

Microsoft has been delivering developer preview versions of IE9 every eight weeks since the product was announced at MIX10 in March. The product enables developers to use the same CSS, HTML and other web technologies to take advantage of PC hardware. The most recent preview added support for W3C standards including HTML5 <audio>, <video> and <canvas> elements, the Web Open Font Format (WOFF) and many other new and improved capabilities.

Windows 7, SharePoint Server 2010 Prerequisites

Please make sure that you’re running Window 7 Professional or higher and its a 64-bit version

Firstly you need to implement steps given in the following article: http://geekdeck.com/windows-7-x64-sharepoint-2010-error-this-product-requires-windows-server-2008-x64/

Once you have modified the config file, you need to take care of the following and ensure that they should be installed as there are many times when clicking the Install Software Prerequisites option doesn’t work on Windows 7 hence you manually need to take care of the following steps:

  • Microsoft FilterPack 2.0 Beta. (you will find this in your SharePoint setup folder):
    SetupFolder\PrerequisiteInstallerFiles\FilterPack\FilterPack.msi
  • Microsoft Sync Framework
  • SQL Server Native Client
  • Windows Identity Foundation (Windows6.1-KB974405-x64.msu)
  • Chart Controls

    Windows 7 x64, Sharepoint 2010 error, this product requires Windows Server 2008 (x64)

    Setup in unable to proceed due to the following error(s): This product requires Windows Server 2008 (x64). Correct the issue(s) listed above and re-run setup.

    If you are trying to install SharePoint 2010 on Windows 7 (x64, 64-bit). You might come across this error. Actually this is not an error this is a bug!.

    Fix:

        • Go to the SahrePoint 2010 Setup folder
        • Open config.xml
        • Add the following line before the closing </configuration> tag
    <Setting Id="AllowWindowsClientInstall" Value="True"/>

    Now you’ve modified the config file, you will not see the above error.

    Dell Studio one 19 Touch Driver

    A few days back we happened to purchase Dell Studio one 19 Multi-Touch machines. These machines were by default coming in with Windows 7 Home Premium edition with all the drivers installed. Later we installed Windows 7 Ultimate, automatically all the drivers were picked up but the Touch Driver remain missing finding it out also became a bit difficult on the DELL website as over there this desktop model is not present by its market name.
